Botanical name: Acacia catechu / Senegalia catechu

    Also called as Black Kutch, heartwood or Kher, Acacia Catechu is identifiable by its unique leaves that are arranged in a parallel formation. It’s a moderately sized deciduous tree native to Asia is valued for the production of tannin (Cutch/ Khatta) that is extracted from its heartwood which gives a red colour and a typical shade to paan. The trees’ seeds are an excellent source of protein.
